Hello friends!
It has been awhile since I last updated this blog, but I have been just as involved with frevo while at home in DC since leaving Recife in 2018. Thanks to the pandemic, I’ve been able to take weekly virtual classes with Otávio Bastos of Mexe Com Tudo over the past many months. It is liking touching down in Recife every Saturday morning, sometimes for up to 3 hours! We dance, chat about dance, and even have mentoring sessions for both students and student-teachers.
I’m thrilled to represent Mexe Com Tudo and frevo at the Kennedy Center at the end of this month, on Saturday, August 28 at 11AM. I will lead a short frevo dance workshop as part of On Deck: Women Shredding Through Boundaries at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage outside at the Reach Plaza. This is an all-inclusive festival featuring women in action sports and music. Join us from August 26-28 as the presenters carve out space in the unconventional arenas of jazz and skateboarding for a more equal future together.
